GEO Huddersfield Where to start

Does Google Business Profile affect AI visibility?

Yes, and more directly than anything else you control. Google’s AI Overviews, AI Mode and Gemini draw local business facts from the same Business Profile data as the map pack, so a thin or wrong profile feeds thin or wrong answers. ChatGPT and Perplexity do not read the profile itself, but they read the pages that copy from it and the reviews attached to it. This guide goes through which parts of the profile matter for AI answers, which are decoration, and how to tell whether yours is helping or hurting a Huddersfield business.

How does Google use the Business Profile in its AI answers?

As the source of record for local facts. When someone asks Google’s AI for a heating engineer in Huddersfield, the answer is assembled from the ordinary search index plus the local listings, and the listings come from Business Profile: name, category, address or service area, hours, phone, reviews, photos and the Q&A. Google has said its AI experiences use the same local signals as the rest of search, and the three that have always mattered for the map pack still apply: how relevant the profile is to the question, how far it is from the searcher, and how well known the business is.

That is why a Huddersfield firm with a complete profile and steady reviews can turn up in an AI answer for a question it never wrote a page about.

Which parts of the profile actually matter for AI visibility?

The category first, because it is the hardest filter. Then the business description, in plain words that say what you do and where. Then services, listed individually with a line each. Then the service area, drawn honestly. Then reviews, and your replies to them, which a model reads as a second description of the business written by other people. Then photographs of real work with sensible captions. Posts, products and the booking button matter far less for AI answers, though they do no harm.

  • Primary and secondary categories
  • Business description
  • Individual services
  • Service area
  • Reviews and replies
  • Photos of real work

Does the profile affect ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini too?

Gemini, directly: it is Google’s own assistant and it pulls local results from Maps, so what it says about you is largely your profile read aloud. ChatGPT and Perplexity, indirectly. Neither has access to Google’s listing data, but both read the web, and the web is full of pages that copy it: directories, review aggregators, local guides and the knowledge panel text that other sites quote. A wrong phone number on the profile can turn up in a ChatGPT answer months later by that route.

The reviews are the bigger crossover. Google reviews get quoted and summarised on other sites, and assistants of every kind read those.

What goes wrong with profiles in Huddersfield?

Four things, in our experience. A category chosen years ago that no longer describes the main work, so the profile is relevant to the wrong question. A service-area business that has hidden its address correctly but drawn the area across half of Yorkshire, which dilutes relevance for the town it actually serves. A description written as a slogan, which tells a model nothing. And reviews that stopped in 2023, which reads as a business that stopped too. Each of those is a fix, and the first two can change what the AI says fairly quickly once Google has picked up the change.

Should the profile and the website say the same thing?

Yes, word for word where it matters. Name, category, address or service area, phone and the one-line description should match between the profile and the website, and the website should link to the profile and the profile to the website. A model checking whether the Dolphin Heating on the map is the Dolphin Heating on the site needs those to agree before it will treat them as one business. That agreement is most of what the entity work in GEO amounts to.

How do I tell whether my profile is helping or hurting?

Ask Google’s AI and Gemini the question your customers ask, with the town, and see whether you appear and how you are described. Then open your profile as a customer would and compare. If the answer describes you as something you are not, the profile or a site copying it is usually the reason. If you do not appear at all for a question you should, check the category and the service area first. We do this check as the first step of any GEO work, and it takes an afternoon.

Case studies

How this has played out for real businesses

Dolphin Heating is in the town itself, Bond Brickwork is in Brighouse with an HD postcode, and Standeven Flooring is at Hipperholme. Two of the three are already named in AI answers for the searches that matter to them.

Dolphin Heating

Business
Fay Dolphin’s heating business in Huddersfield: one van, a Gas Safe registered engineer with more than 25 years in the trade, and plenty of customers who specifically want a female gas engineer.
Problem
The thing that made Fay different was the thing people were typing, and nothing online said it plainly enough for Google or an AI assistant to connect the two.
Work
A website, positioning, SEO and AI search work built around the exact phrase customers use, with Fay, her qualifications and her area stated in plain sentences a machine can read back.

First on Google for female gas engineer Huddersfield, and named in the AI answer for the same search.

“David created me a new website. He was easy to talk to and understood exactly what I wanted. I was very impressed with his knowledge and he was always on hand if I had any questions. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend David and Halizona. Excellent service.”

Standeven Flooring

Business
A commercial flooring contractor established in 2003 at Hipperholme, between Halifax and Brighouse, with installation teams working nationwide. The M&S Food store in Pudsey is one of the jobs we have filmed.
Problem
A machine reading a flooring website with no projects on it has no way of telling a national contractor from a carpet shop, and neither has a buyer.
Work
We redeveloped the website around completed jobs and have kept adding to it: photography and video shot on site as the work happens, ongoing content and SEO.

Projects like Pudsey, shown properly, have helped Standeven win more large contracts.

“Halizona have done a great job on our recent website update, providing great support as well as excellent on-site video footage and social media posts. Highly recommend Dave and the team.”

About Halizona

A Halifax marketing company, twenty minutes from Huddersfield

Halizona is a marketing company in Halifax, West Yorkshire, helping established businesses get found by the right people, give them reasons to trust them and win more of the work they actually want. Huddersfield is a short drive over the hill, and two of the businesses on this page are within a few miles of it.

Websites, SEO, AI search, content, social media, photography, video and marketing strategy are all done by the same small team, which matters for GEO in particular, because an AI answer is assembled from all of those at once and a gap in any one of them shows.

Approaching 20 years in websites and digital marketing sit behind the work, and today it covers West Yorkshire and nearby areas, including Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds, Keighley and Skipton.

Common questions

Questions people ask about this

I am a sole trader working from home. Should I show my address?

No. Hide it and set a service area. Google allows that for businesses that visit customers, and an assistant treats a service-area business as local to the towns in that area.

Can you manage the profile for us?

Yes. Categories, description, services, photographs, review replies and the checks against what the AI answers say, as part of the wider search work.

Want to be the name an AI gives when a Huddersfield customer asks?

You do not necessarily need more marketing. You may need the parts you already have to say the same thing, in the places an assistant reads.
